Storm Front

This is the first book in the Dresden Files series and, as such, we meet Harry Dresden, wizard; Murray, a police woman who he works for at times and upsets frequently; Bob, a talking skull, and Morgan of the White Council, a bunch of people who have set their own rules for the use of magic and are not above killing someone who breaks those rules, in their view.

In this first novel, Harry is called to a murder scene where the hearts have been ripped out of two people, and they aren't the only ones to die in the story. There's the expected frightening monster, a dark wizard, a mob figure and his henchmen, a woman supposedly looking for her missing husband, potions, scorpions, a fairy who loves pizza, and so on.

The story is excellently told. The action is quite strong, there's plenty of blood and gore, plenty of magic, and some dark humor. Definitely a very good read.
