This is basically a Weather Wardens spin-off series, concerning a djinn who is kicked out of the djinn and turned pretty much into a human. The first half of the book deals with her adapting to all the differences between an ultra-powerful djinn and a regular human being who still, though, has to draw energy from weather wardens.

There is a group that is out, it seems, to eliminate all the djinns, and they leave a lot of human bodies behind as collateral damage in their efforts. They also use children to further their schemes, even if it means the children will die.

Cassiel, the now-human djinn, is befriended, sort of, by a human family that ends up paying the price, and she sets off for revenge.
