Zoey is still out of favor with her former friends. A new kid named Stark arrives at the House of Night. Stevie Rae has developed the ability to climb up the side of a building. Aphrodite is back to being a regular human, and has had a vision of Zoey being dead, thus releasing a full-scale war between humans and vampires. Aphrodite explains to Zoey that she has seen two different ways that she will die, after which the war will start. Stevie Rae has developed new abilities like mind control, being able to climb buildings, and extra strength. Later, Aphrodite helps Zoey and her friends to make up. Shekinah, the Queen of all vampires, shows up and tells Neferet that there will not be a war between humans and vampires. Neferet gets really nasty with Shekinah, still wanting a war. (Here's where I see an interesting alternative storyline. What would happen if one of the people at the school really resents being a vampire, and finds out about the would-be war with humans, then lets the human government find out what is being planned? That could lead to some rather interesting developments.) Stark talks about he can kill things by shooting them with his arrow and imagining it hitting the target. It can backfire, though, causing him to kill a guy accidentally. Stark dies, one of the unsuccessful changes. Zoey, as leader of the Daughters of the Night, is going to work with Stray Cats, which is a human charity run by nuns. Zoey and Aphrodite find out what the real threat to everyone is, and it's going to be very, very dangerous to everyone, especially women. Zoey and her friends decipher a poem Aphrodite wrote down in a vision, and begin to make plans to try and stop this evil being Kalona from arising. The Raven mockers attack Zoey's grandmother and cause her to have a car accident. Meanwhile, Zoey and her friends have to lead a ritual at the school. Then all hell breaks lose, and Karona and his evil minions attack humans in the nearby city. This is a great addition to the series, and I'm looking forward to the next book. |
