The Philadelphia Experiment

By Charles River Editors

The book is about a major legend involving a U.S. naval ship that tried to use a unique method to render the ship totally invisible which would, of course, be of major value during wartime.

According the legend things didn't go as planned. The ship did become invisible but it also may have traveled a considerable distance and back extrmemely quickly (something not planned) and some of the men on board vanished and some were somehow become merged with parts of the ship.

Some men vanished forever.

Whether or not the story is true is examined by the book which also includes online resources, further reading and footnotes.

It's not the best book I've read on the subject but it still does a decent job of examining the legend.
