Building the First Pyramid: The History of the Ancient Egyptian Religious Beliefs and Archaeology Behind Djoser’s Step Pyramid

Normally I really like books from Charles River Editors but this one had me confused. The title indicates that the book is about the first pyramid that was built which implies who built, how it was built and why it was built. My assumption was that the entire book dealt with those things.

Instead, the majority of the book was about one person, Imhotep, who he was and what he did. Although I found the information on him interesting I was disappointed in that the material on the first pyramid, and others, was not the major factor in the book.

The book does go into the various periods in Egyptian history, how Egyptian religion developed, mummification and burial, various types of pyramids and so. I really think they should have titled this book Imhotep rather than The First Pyramid.
