The Ancient Egyptians’ Diet: The History of Eating and Drinking in Egypt

It's easy to find things out about the pyramid construction (and no, they weren't built by space aliens) but works on the daily lives of the Egyptians at that time aren't as common. This book goes into that, covering just what kinds of things Egyptians ate.

It covers the basic food at first and then the influence of invaders over time and their food preferences and how the two blended together.

The importance of the Nile is discussed along with crops, seasons, irrigation systems, the Nilometer, canals, and the main crop being forms of wheat. Tenant farmers are covered along with gleaning, barter, kitchens in the homes and that there were two main meals a day.

Other things covered was the belief that the dead needed to eat (utensils were at times buried with them), religious festivals and just what kind of beer was made at that time. There are also online resources, suggestions for further reading and a section on notes.

I found the whole thing to be very interesting.
