Fear in the Forest, volume 6

The first story is about a woman who was driving and saw a Bigfoot in the road. It stares at her and this is another trait which seems very common, the creature just staring at the observer. The second story is about a Mothman sightings, prophecies and a threat.

Then there's a strange story about a disappearing village in a forest and then a couple stories about rakes, creatures that are very skinny, have pale skin and talons.

Then there's a story about a woman who goes camping alone (which is not the best idea in the world considering the amount of violence against women. She also doesn't bring a cellphone which is really wrong since if she is hurt somehow, even accidentally, she's not going to be able to get help.)

In this case there's a strange deer/human hybrid.

Then there's a story that bothered me on a number of levels. A guy goes to a cabin in the woods to work on his writing. He brings no food with him, no water and no phone. A triple play of non-thinking on his part.

The cabin is attacked by either a werewolf or a dogman.

But here's the major thing to me. Both this story and the following story seem to be too well written, almost as if they are contrived. Almost all the stories in these books I have read are short, to the point stories. These two, this one and the next, stand out as being very, very different from the 'traditional' sighting stories.

The next story is long and again too detailed and well-written about a group of people that go into called Shadow Hollow. They have no guns but they are in a jungle. A jungle has a lot of very dangerous normal animals in it and yet they bring nothing to defend themselves with? Not even flares?

Then it gets stranger as a Wendigo becomes involved and a woman reads an ancient script in a ceremony to get rid of theWendigo. Now, if it's an ancient script then how does she know how to read it?

What follows is a more normal story about a mimic creature which the writer says is an energy vampire. Then there's a typical black-eyed child story. The really interesting thing is that as the creature spoke the lip movements did not match the words being spoken.

So, a pretty typical book of the series except for the two stories which just don't ring right.
