Myths and Legends of our Own Land, volume 5

One of the reasons I'm reading this series of books is to see what types of cryptids and related things the books record. This volume has nothing to do with Bigfoot, Mothman, UFOs or any other cryptids although it does have legends involving ghosts.

Looking online I found that the Bigfoot/Sasquatch sightings go back before recorded history in the U.S. UFO sightings in American go back to at least the early 1600's if not earlier. v

The first story involves an 'aboriginal town' meaning it was a town made by the Native Americans. Then there's a story about three girls who drowned and how they appear before any other drownings in the area.

The third story is about a patriot captured by the British. The most important part is the description of where he was held which was on a British ship with 'inhuman conditions' and many deaths.

The fourth story is about a harnt which, looking it up, is another word for a haunting. In this case it's not a human ghost but ghosts of animals. There's actually a bunch of different animal ghosts. This is followed by another ghost story which involves a ghost ship with 'gigantic negroes who drowned on the boat.' The haunting actually seems political in nature.

There's a story about a young man captured by a tribe and raised by them. There's a story about a siren, a hunter that is determined to kill a deer that leaves no tracks, a story about two evil brothers, and then another story involving a ghost that helps a man find his body.

There's a story about an earthquake that swallows some Native Americans, a tribe that commits suicide, and and another ghost story and one of a cruel ship captain.

These, by the way, are not fiction stories. They are legends that were handed down based on something one or more people observed.

It's an interesting view into a time over one hundred years ago.
