Prophecy: What the Future Holds for You

This 2005 book is about the subject of prophecy which is one of the most difficult areas in paranormality for a number of reasons. For one thing, time as seen from whatever reality the people doing prophecy receive their information is not necessarily exactly the same thing as time on this side. Thus, pinning exact times when something will happen is not easy.

In addition, there has been a history of people claiming to be prophetic and trying to lead a cult movement, only to have their prophecies fail to come true. Then there are prophecies which are vague in nature, such as those of Nostradamus. Although various people have said exactly what Nostradamus' prophecies say, when you compare these accounts the translations will differ.

There are also questions on exactly when a prophecy is fulfilled or not. One of the most famous American prophets, Edgar Cayce, predicted that Atlantis would begin to rise at a specific time. Something called “the Bimini road” was found in that time period, and thus some people claim his prophecy was fulfilled since the Bimini Road must have been part of Atlantis. On the other hand, there are those who say the Bimini Road is just a natural rock formation; if that is true, then the prophecy has not been fulfilled. (It's also possible the Bimini Road had nothing to do with Atlantis, but was part of some as-of-yet unknown shipping culture of the area)

Syvlia Browne talks about prophecy and prophets and where the visions that inspire the prophets come from. She then makes her own predictions about the future, covering a very wide range of things; ecology, weather, space travel, politics, the economy, religion, marriage, health issues, mental health issues, and so on.

Most of her predictions are from around 2010 on, although a few are before then. They include, basically, the end of the US governmental structure as it stands today; domed cities to help keep out pollution; extraterrestrials already among the population, working in various jobs; a drastic restructuring of US education from grades 7 through 12; major medical advances and advances in treating mental diseases, and what I would call cultural centers being established which sound incredibly good.

There are a few predictions based on 2006 and before, though, and of these I don't think any have come true. One was a computer chip to be put into the brain to allow movement of paralyzed limbs and a significant breakthrough vaccine against AIDS in 2005. Still, she admits she is not 100% accurate and is very clear that the things she does are subject to begin misinterpreted or just plain wrong. Still, she claims an accuracy that is very high.

I think many of her prophecies will come true, but not in the times that she has set for them. I think the reorganization of the US government predicted for rather soon isn't going to happen, and I don't think her school predictions will work out, mainly due to lack of necessary funds and protests from boards of education about not having enough say in what is being taught.

It's an interesting book, and by putting down a large number of specific predictions Sylvia Browne is taking a bold step.
