Ranko's Curse: A Love Story

Review

There are various changes form the manga storyline. Ranma is really Ranko and has always been a girl. She's cursed to turn into a boy. Akane's mother is still alive, but Nodoka isn't. Genma is actually far more slimy, vicious and cruel than he was in the manga.

This is an alternative fanfic, and it's done with great feeling towards how Ranko would feel being mistreated by Genma (he actually beat her in this story). What happens makes sense, and it will be interesting to see if this story is continued.

Synopsis

Chapter 1

This opens up differently than the series. Kimiko, Soun's wife, is still alive. They do get a postcard saying Ranma will be home soon.

Ranma has some kind of curse, but Genma doesn't.

The same marriage pact is announced, but when Ranma arrives he's a boy and Genma's a man. Akane asks if Ranma wants to spar. They have a regular sparring session. Kasumi ends up saying Ranma's too young for her. Akane and Nabiki both might be interested.

It turns out the curse is reversed; Ranma is a girl cursed to turn into a boy. She shows Akane what happens and Akane plans to attack him, but he backs into cold water and turns into a girl and begs not to be hurt. Kimiko comes in and sees that Ranma-chan/Ranko is covered in bruises.

Ranko didn't know about the engagement, and now realizes Genma pushed her into the spring of downed boy on purpose.

When Genma finds out Kimiko is taking Ranko to Dr. Tofu he tries to get Ranko and spirit her away, but Kimiko stops him with her katana.

Nabiki begins to access some information on the computer. She's thinking about joining the police force one day.

Dr. Tofu examines Ranko and she's more badly bruised than Akane realized. She admits Genma has been beating her. Back at the dojo, Kimiko tells Genma he has to leave and never return, and that Nabiki has dug up enough warrants on him to put him away for a long time. He leaves, but, when alone, says it isn't over yet.

Chapter 2

The same meeting with Kuno happens, but Akane handles him and Ranma, currently in boy form, is cowering on the ground. Ranko simply cannot handle men being aggressive towards her, even if she is in her male form.

Kuno approaches Nabiki to find out who Ranma is. Nabiki tells him that Ranma and her sister are both staying at their house, and that they were abused by their father. Kuno seems to understand that, and later apologizes to Ranma.

Akane and Ranko take a bath and she holds Ranko and then ends up kissing her. It turns our Ranma has never seen a regular movie, and the things she says about her life with Genma are just as harsh, if not harsher, than what happened in the series. It's obvious Ranko has been through a lot.

The next morning at school Kuno asks Ranko for a date. He's actually being fairly polite, but Ranko (now in her normal girl form) freaks out and Akane trashes Kuno.

Akane and Ranko go on what is really a date, and they realize they are attracted to each other, and Akane is attracted to both sides of Ranko. They end up kissing when they get back and Nabiki sees them, but she's planning to actually help them.

Chapter 3

Akane and Ranko are walking home from school when Ryoga appears, but, instead of saying his normal line about killing Ranma, he says he's there to save Ranko from her father.

Genma sneaks back to get Ranma but is stopped by Ryoga who ends up in his P-chan form. This time it's Ranko who thinks he's really cute and not Akane. P-chan ends up seeing Ranko and Akane kiss.

Another change; Kasumi is in college and her cooking skills are like Akane's in the regular series.

Ranko runs into Kodachi who has been beating up the Furinkan team, so Akane and Ranma will represent the school instead.

Ranko still has the Dragon's Whisker curse.

Kodachi attacks Akane. Ranko ends up in the koi pond and changes into Ranma who Kodachi then tries to have sex with.

Kuno tries to hit on Akane and Ranko, but Kodachi shows up and gets mad at Ranko who then promptly beats the tar out of her.

Chapter 4

Ranko and Akane win the gymnastics tournament, Kodachi being injured and unable to compete. Later they run across P-chan. Then Shampoo appears, glomps male Ranma. Akane fights Shampoo and beats her, and Ranma says they need to run away.

Shampoo is at the dojo and gives Akane the kiss of death, but Kimiko straightens out Shampoo who then leaves. It was male-form Ranma that won the tournament in this version of events.

Later Ranko and Akane make out and Kimiko ends up seeing them and has a talk with them later.

Chapter 5

Nodoka has been dead for two years. Akane and Ranko enter her house that had been closed-up and Ranko begins to remember her father stealing her away from Nodoka.

Ranko will end up with quite a bit of money, her favorite stuffed animal, Bun, and her mother's katana. She finds a letter from her mother, and Ranko learns Genma was not a Saotome; he took the name after he married Nodoka. Ranko and Ryoga spar, and Ranko finds out she can use a chi attack, but it has to be used on boys.

Ranko explains to Akane about the cat-fist training; Genma has been watching them.

Chapter 6

Akane and Ranko get to school and once again run into Kuno. This time Ranko takes him on, trying to get used to fighting males. She wins.

Sasuke tricks Ranko and Akane into a pit of cats. They also encounter a tiger, and Ranko goes into cat mode. Ranko ends up in Akane's lap and falls asleep.

Genma is angry and is going tocall various fiances.

Then there's a section from the manga about the Azuza/Charlotte/ice skating thing.

Genma has been removed from the family register. He's been contacting the various fiances to try to stir up trouble for Ranko and for Kimiko, who he absolutely hates.

Ranko asks Kimiko to train her in the use of the katana.

Ukyo enrolls in the school and promptly attacks male Ranma who tries to explain to her that he is really a she. In the end she agrees to be Ranko's friend.
