A Day in the Life of Ranma Saotome review

From the author's Preword you think the story would not be very good, but that is quite wrong. The author does not give himself enough credit for his writing abilities.

The story starts out with the birth of Ranma. The setting where the birth takes place is very interesting. Ranma leaves the dojo for parts unknown, and the group from the show gathers to try to find out where he went, but Kasumi is pretty sure she knows.

The story also has the most unique method I have seen of Ranma (male) becoming Ranma-chan (female) on purpose and very, very peacefully. Akane becoming a male is explained and is quite believable. This story is, granted, different from the canon in one very important way, and that is that Akane and Ranma both behave in a much more mature fashion. Akane is not the 'hit first and ask later' person she is in the canon, and Ranma actually bothers to think before he acts. I consider both an improvement.

Nodoka's reaction to Ranma become permanently a girl is also handled well and reflects a Nodoka that is not so unbelievably hide-bound in her beliefs on what constitutes a man.

Ryoga attacks Ranma-chan but is dealt with firmly by Akane.

Genma is his usual self, though, and basically disowns Ranma-chan. Ukyo's reaction makes sense. Cologne's reaction makes sense. Akane handles Kuno (Akane's strength has actually increased considerably since she became a man), and they decided to get a restraining order on Kodachi, which makes sense.

I think what is the best thing about this fanfic is that Ranma-chan is happy. There are some things that go wrong, of course, but Ranma-chan is now happier than she had ever been, almost childish at times, totally enjoying her life. After what had been done to Ranma in the past, I think that Ranma-chan/Ranko really deserves the happiest the story gives her.
