Lost Innocence

Review

This is one of the most emotionally upsetting, yet one of the finest, Ranma-chan fanfics I have yet read.

The story basically starts with the rape of Ranma-chan by Kuno. It is set up in a way that makes sense with the Ranma ½ storyline. In fact the characters are done very well in the story, and Kodachi is given some significant background development.

The strength of the story lies in the consequences of the rape, and these are explored in detail, including how the various characters are affected by what happened. It's definitely not a happy story, but it's an incredibly well-done story. This is one of the few that I would term a “must read”, although you may not be able to read it all the way through at one setting; I've said before that it's emotionally upsetting, and that is not just a reference to what is in the story. If you have any sensitivity at all, you'll only be able to read some of the story before having to find something else to do for a while.

Synopsis

Chapter 1

The story takes place after the failed wedding attempt.

Kodachi is the first up, and it's revealed that she's not really interested in Ranma and considers Ranma and Akane sort of to be friends. She hears something from Kuno's room and finds he's assaulting a red-headed girl. Kodachi grabs Kuno from the girl and disables him with a taser-like club.

It's possible that Kodachi was too late to have saved Ranma-chan from being sexually molested.

Ranma-chan goes home to take a bath but she doesn't change back into male form when she gets into the hot water and she freaks, badly. Apparently Ranma had eaten some drugged ramen and Kuno took advantage of her and did rape her.

Kasumi tells Akane and Akane goes to comfort Ranma-chan, who is sleeping. She then tells Nabiki and Nabiki is ice-cold furious.

Ryoga as P-chan shows up in Akane's room and sees Ranma-chan, but before he can attack Akane stops him. A short time later Kodachi shows up and gives the Kuno family katana to Kasumi, telling her they can take whatever vengeance they want, although she herself beat up Kuno quite effectively.

When Ranma-chan wakes up she starts to leave the room but Akane won't let her, holding her and letting her know that she will stand beside her no matter what. Nabiki earlier gave Akane a card about a group to help people who were raped. Ranma-chan finally breaks down into tears.

Genma and Soun get back from drinking at a bar and Nodoka also shows up. Nodoka talks to Ranma-chan briefly and she puts up her mental barriers really quick, acting like nothing has happened.

Genma gets mad at Ranma-chan for being in girl form and Kasumi takes a spear from the walk, removes the protective cover, and threatens both fathers.

Ryoga comes into the room for dinner and Nabiki says the two of them need to talk. Nabiki reveals that she thought she was pregnant when Ranma first came there. Nabiki had also been forced to have sex against her will. Nabiki orders Ranma to be her spy at the Cat Cafe.

Ranma-chan explains how the rape occurred. She was under the effects of Shampoo's drugged ramen and was unable to get herself mentally together enough to overcome what Kuno was doing to her.

The fathers are told, and the next day Nabiki takes Ryoga to confront Shampoo and Cologne. Shampoo is defiant, but Cologne does not take her side, especially once she finds out just what happened. Shampoo loses her status as an Amazon. Cologne tells Nabiki that Ranma-chan is in female form because she is pregnant and, unless she carries the baby to term, will never be a male again. The drug Shampoo used will also make Ranma-chan horny.

Cologne did not tell Nabiki everything. Shampoo would remain a cat for only a year, but after that she would be a servant for the tribe. She did tell Nabiki that Ranma-chan's current pregnancy could be terminated, but she'd still have to get pregnant again, so she gives her some powder that can cause a female to become cursed and be a male when doused with cold water.

Nabiki tells Ranma-chan about her pregnancy and the need for her to give birth to a child. Nabiki gives Akane and Ranma-chan the packets of power and explains that the body doesn't have to be Kuno's. (In other words, Akane can use the powder, be cursed to become male part time, have sex with Ranma-chan and get her pregnant with their baby.)

Akane changes to a male and Ranma-chan and her, now him, do have sex. (Yes, unrealistic in reality, but Ranma-chan has been affected by the incredibly heavy dose of drug that Shampoo gave her, enough that it will have a permanent effect on her body.) Nodoka is told the plans and basically goes along with them (for Akane and Ranma-chan to be married, and Akane to get her pregnant.)

Akane and Ranma-chan tell Ukyo what happened.

The Cat Cafe has been abandoned, and Ukyo goes through it first and then demolishes the building.

Ranma-chan has her showdown with Kuno. She defeats him and hits him in the back in a way that will make him weak for the rest of his life.

When Kuno wakes up he's still under the delusion that Ranma-chan is under Ranma's control. Ukyo shows up and uses some of the powders she found to turn him into a mouse.

Ranma-chan and Akane also get married in this chapter, with Akane as the husband.

Chapter 2

Ranma-chan has nightmares almost nightly and Nodoka wants to talk to her about things. Nodoka and Soun leave to search for Genma.

Nabiki takes Ranma-chan to a therapy group but she walks out, saying she's fine.

There's a number of fairly normal activities, then Ranma-chan and Akane (in male form) have sex, and a body is discovered in the woods.

Akane ends up with a curse that stays with her rather than is temporary. She hasn't told Ranma-chan yet, though. Ranma-chan blames herself, but Akane tells her it is not her fault.

Akane tells Ranma-chan that sometimes when people stared at them (when Ranma-chan was in female form), they may have thought they were a lesbian couple.

The police have Kodachi identify Kuno's body (apparently he was eaten by an owl when he was in the mouse form and returned to human state after his death, thus destroying the owl in the process.) Anyhow, the police are suspicious of Kodachi.

Nabiki and Ranma-chan talk, Ranma-chan thinking she's weak because she breaks down crying over what happened.

Ranma-chan finds out Kuno is dead and she breaks down again.

Chapter 3

Moose shows up at the school and says Ranma is a tramp. Ukyo attacks him and he runs away. It's obvious he's insane.

Students know, because of what Moose said, that Ranma-chan had sex with kuno and many of them think it's because she was raped, if not almost all of them. Ranma is determined to go to school and face whatever happens.

Hinako is strongly supportive of Ranma-chan.

Ukyo gets back to school and goes after some students making fun of Ranma-chan.

Things don't go well for Ranma-chan, though, and she has to go home from school. A small group of students are told what really happened.

Kodachi gets home and finds the estate has been ransaked, all her plants destroyed and her pet alligator killed. Ryoga arrives and finds out he's actually related to her.

The detectives investigating Kuno's death show up when they are told about the damage to Kodachi's estate. They also kid Ryoga about dating Nabiki (this has becoming a running gag, even though he's not actually dating her.)

Nabiki and Ranma-chan plan to attend the rape support group that night. The meeting is very emotionally unsettling (it can be even for the reader.)

Ryoga and Kodachi go to Ukyo's restaurant and she says she'll let them crash there for a bit. Kodachi has a piece of cloth taken from her alligator and Ukyo borrows it for some reason.

A detective shows up and questions Ranma-chan. Nabiki later has a private talk with him and fills him in on more of the actual facts of what happened and that Moose is to be considered dangerous.

Suddenly Ranma-chan gets weak and Akane and Kasumi see that she is bleeding.

Meanwhile at Ukyo's Moose attacks Kodachi, Ryoga and Nabiki, changing Ryoga into P-chan and hurting Kodachi and Nabiki badly. He doesn't notice what's behind him, though, and is beheaded by Ukyo.

Chapter 4

The ambulance and emergency medical personnel get to the dojo where they put Ranma-chan on a stretcher. It seems she is having a miscarriage.

(Note: there's a lot of other things going on, such as a reference to Kodachi's suicide attempt, the same type of thing by Ryoga, and Ranma's growing depression allowing him to do the same types of things Ryoga can do, which are fueled by massive depression.)

Ryoga talks to Kasumi and reveals he's P-chan and she slaps him. Nabiki has a broken collar bone and Kodachi suffered Moose's attack also, but both would heal. Ranma-chan is in good condition and will still be able to have children.

A couple of students from the school find out what happened and end up bringing Ranma-chan get-well cards and gifts.

It is possible that Nabiki is getting to like Ryoga.

Kodachi and Ryoga are going to stay at the dojo for a couple of days or so.

Akane and Ranma-chan have sex as females and they both enjoy it.

Everybody makes their way to breakfast. Kodachi has been burned from the electrical charge but can walk; Nabiki's arm is in a sling. Akane and Ranma-chan have an intimate moment.

Akane is told Ryoga is P-chan but, instead of getting mad, she just laughs. (It makes sense in the context of the story. It's an extremely well done scene.)

Kodachi, Ryoga, Nabiki, Akane and Ranma-chan all decide to go see a movie. A female attendant insults Ranma-chan, though, calling her a slut. She gets fired, and the manager offers to let them see the movie free.

On the plus side, Ranma-chan is finally starting to get angry about what happened.

Chapter 6

The chapter opens with some hearing at school or at the school board center dealing with the principal of the school (Kuno's father). Ukyo is mad at Ryoga. Something has upset Nabiki, and the girl that made fun of Ranma at the theater finally finds out the truth of what happened to her.

Apparently when Nabiki was forced to have sex with the guy he took photos of her. For some reason she presents these at the hearing. It turns out the girl who made fun of Ranma was also raped by a group of thugs at the school.

It seems the school athletes are behind a series of rapes of the girls at the school.

Kodachi has uncovered evidence that her father is wanted by American authorities for child abuse and other charges in Hawaii when he tried to start a school there.

Kuno is removed from his position at the school. Later Nabiki is looking through a box of things she keeps that remind her of bad things that happened and she ends up crying on Ryoga's shoulder.

Some very, very, very dark things are revealed about Kodachi's father's past, in relation to her mother. He is also going to be prosecuted by the US, (first), and then Japan.

Chapter 7

Akari (the girl with the giant pig) has very strong views against abortion. Ryoga and Nabiki slept in the same room the previous night. (They didn't do anything; Nabiki was nervous and needed company).

Nabiki takes her box of terrible memories with her to the detective's office, along with Ryoga.

Ukyo is having a hard time dealing with her turning Kuno into a mouse and then his getting eaten, and also her decapitation of Moose. Konatsu tries to reassure her, especially on the latter death.

School starts up again, and Ranma-chan gets some nasty looks and overhears various comments indirectly about her. Some students don't believe what was said at the hearing, and others look at her as some kind of sideshow exhibit.

Nabiki gives up her information “business” at the high school, effectively retiring.

Dr. Tofu is back and Ranma-chan and Nabiki tell him what happened. Later Ryoga is lost (again) but this time finds his mother. Ryoga tells her some about what has happened and that Kodachi wanted to make contact with their side of the family.

Dr. Tofu, Akane and Ranma-chan talk with Ranma-chan's gynecologist and explain what happened. Dr. Tofu says Ranma-chan needs to develop healing techniques rather than just working on offensive things.

Nabiki had applied to a number of colleges but, because of the publicity of the hearing (things related to her rape, etc), the colleges back out. She's thinking of attending Harvard college, though, and has been accepted there.

Akane and Ranma-chan spar and Akane gets a hit in, giving Ranma-chan a black eye. At school there's a lot of trouble, some of the students thinking Akane was abusing Ranma-chan.

Nodoka calls and Kasumi tells her about the miscarriage and about the Neko-ken training and other things, and says that she thinks Ranma-chan wants to remain female.

Akane and Ranma-chan are working on chi channeling techniques between the two of them, using positive, loving energy.

Chapter 8

Genma has returned to the dojo but no one seems to be there. He finds a room with an Akane and Ranma plaque on it, and Akane's old room is now a nursery. Genma meets Ranma and they talk and she tells him to leave and never return.

Ranma and Akane now have a daughter. Ranma-chan tells Nodoka that she basically plans to remain female.
