My Two Saotomes

Review

This is another in the series of fiction pieces that have multiple parts but was never finished.

This one is based on the idea of Ranma having a sister, Ranko, and they both go on the training trip with Genma and both fall into cursed springs, Ranko changing into a large white wolf.

A large part of the story is really the canon story of Ranma, but just throwing in a comment or something from Ranko now and then and, as such, it's a little disappointing. It is interesting the way that Ranko likes Ryouga, but still not enough is made of her character, too much time spent in rehashing events we already know about.

It would have been interesting to see if the story developed along more original lines or would have stayed very close to the "normal" Ranma story. In either case, the story has not been finished and, since it was posted in 2001, and not updated, it's probably as done as it ever will be.

Synopsis

Chapter 1

Genma buys the postcard which he will send to Soun and then goes off to "join his children." Plural.

Genma has Ranma, male, excellent hand-to-hand martial artist, and Ranko, female, excellent martial artist who uses a katana (sword) in her fighting style.

Then follows the standard "Ranma is coming and someone is going to marry him" canon section.

We also have the standard Genma to panda conversion, and the standard Ranma to girl conversion, but Ranko changes into a white wolf.

There's a humorous moment when the wolf bites the panda's rear end.

Then follows the Ranma and Akane section, but this time Ranma ( in girl form) actually hits Akane during the sparring. Later Genma explains what happened in China.

Finally Ranma is engaged to Akane as usual.

Chapter 2

Genma tells Ranma that he and Ranko will have to attend school.

Then follows the canon part about going to school, Ranma getting hit with cold water, going to Dr. Tofu's, etc. Then there's the meeting with Kuno, Ranma vs. Kuno and the shower.

Then follow the canon Ranma vs. Kuno argument (with a slight addition of Ranko getting hit on by Kuno), the jump from the window and the pool.

Ranko gets the challenge notice from Kuno instead of Ranma-chan. She shows up and Kuno gives her the roses. The morning challenge changes when the boys go after both Akane and Ranko.

Then we have the standard Nabiki-selling-pictures section, and Ranma, Ranko and Akane find out about the pictures.

Chapter 3

The chapter opens with Ryouga trying to find Ranma and getting terribly lost, as usual.

Genma gets a sweeping job at Dr. Tofu's.

Then there's the meeting of Ranma and Ryouga and the "you ran out on a fight" thing as in canon. Then Ranko tells about the time they were all friends, years ago, when she would help Ryouga find their school. She also reveals she had a crush on him at the time.

Then she reveals that Genma made some kind of pact with Ryouga's father that she and Ryouga would get married. They were going to start dating but Ryouga didn't show up for the date and Ranko ended up crying a lot. Ranma got made about that and he and Ryouga did not get along for a week at school. Then comes the scheduled-but-never-happened fight between the two.

The reason Genma, Ranma and Ranko go on a training trip to China when they did was Genma did not have the rent money for the place they were staying and he needed to skip town quick.

Next is the canon fight between the two with Ranma hurling the various forms of bread and Ryouga hurling his umbrella. After that there's the cutting-of-Akane's-hair by Ryouga's bandana event.

Chapter 4

Another canon event where Ryouga and Ranma tell Akane to slap them and she does. Ranko, though, adds a punch of her own.

Kasumi fixes up Akane's hair and Ranko comforts her.

Ryouga later shows up at the dojo very late at night and fights Ranma. Then there's the canon story of Ranma mistaking a neighborhood dog for Ryouga.
