The main points of: Film/Picnic at Hanging Rock

It recaps what happened.

It has a list of things that the film provides examples some of which include:

Acquired too late: Sara's death happens and their her benefactor's payment arrives.

Adaptation Distillation: The film leaves out some things from the book.

Adaptation: Personality change: Miss Lumley is a 'jackass' in the books but doens't come across quite as bad in the film.

Adapted out: Miss Lumley's brother is absent from the film even though he was in the book.

All Love is Unrequited: Irma was attracted to the French teacher. Sara was attracted to Miranda. Michael had feelings for Miranda.

The full name of the French teacher is only in the novel.

There are deleted scenes from the movie.

The movie and book are based on fiction, not on reality.

Miranda and the French teacher are pretty while Edith and Ms. Lumley are not.

Mrs. Appleyard might be a con artist.

Sara was in love with Miranda and threw herself out a window. (There is a problem here, though, and that relates to timing. Exactly when did she fall from a window. Assuming it was after she found out about Miranda's disappearance then isn't it more logical that she would have gone crying to the other girls first? Or at least cried loudly in her room which probably would have attracted the attention of at least one of the girls? I still am of the opinion that Mrs. Appleyard was responsible for her death which could have been accidentally caused by something she did.)

The purpose of the school was to get the girls to behave like proper English ladies.

Downer ending: Two girls are gone permanently along with one teacher, Sara is dead, Mrs. Appleyard is dead, Miss Lumley and her brother are dead and Edith dies a few years after she leaves the school.

The article believes that Sara committed suicide.

Miranda tells Sara before she leaves that 'I won't be here much longer' which can refer to her graduating from the school or that she knew something was going to happen to her.

Sara was majorly depressed over Miranda's disappearance which is when Mrs. Appleyard told her she was going to be sent back to the orphanage.

Weir's director's cut removes around eight minutes from the original film.

Most of the cast were amateurs.
