Guestbook Entries

One of the advantages of having a guestbook is that people will add information about various topics on my site, and oftentimes the information is fascinating as well as interesting and informative.

In relation to Picnic at Hanging Rock, I want to site the following entries:

1. Hanging Rock is not exactly in the "outback":

"It's great to see so many "Picnic" fans are out there, but just a word of correction is needed. Hanging Rock is NOT in the "outback". It's only 70 miles drive from Melbourne. Even in 1900, it would not have been classified as "outback"!" -from Barbara

2. Some schoolgirls might have disappeared at some time:

"Interesting site. Just a word about Picnic at Hanging Rock being "fact or fiction" - somebody has written at length on IMDB that they have "anecdotal evidence" that some Ballarat schoolchildren did disappear at Hanging Rock, but it happened way before 1900. Maybe even before Hanging Rock was named "Hanging Rock". The girls weren't rich either. Not sure at all if it's true, or if this person has found any documentary proof yet, but I think it's possible. Epecially if the girls came from poor families. (This is all conjecture, but a few poor kids getting lost in the outback in the 19th century would have been put down to "Death by misadventure" - this wasn't uncommon at the time and is unlikely to have created many headlines, not as far away as Melbourne.) " - from Sylvia

3. In relation to the music:

"Was just looking at your page on the music in the film, and it hapens that I used to have a copy of the album shown, Gheorghe Zamfir, A Theme From Picnic At Hanging Rock.

This was not the original album, whch was done by Zamfir and a French organist, featuring traditional Romanian music. One of the producers of the film heard some of this music on TV and decided to use it in the film. Gheorghe Zamfir must love him. The album featured on your page was obviously put together to capitalise on the success of the film It featured the two tracks used in the film. Someone in Oz also did a jazzed-up version of one of the tracks, which was a hit in Oz." -from Neil

4. In relation to the book "The Murders at Hanging Rock":

"Sweetie, your site is gorgeous. I just want point out that Yvonne Rosseau's book "The Murders At Hanging Rock" is actually a satire, and that she's poking gentle fun at all the people who became obsessed with the story and film..I'm sure if you read the "alternate universe" theory again you'll see what I mean, she's making excuses for all the little factual errors that appear (like most books probably)...anyway have fun...
