The main points of the article include:

1. Many odd things have happened in the area of Hanging Rock.

2. Because of that and the fact that there was a boarding school for young girls in the area some people still believe that the events in the book really happened.

3. Hanging Rock was formed around 7 million years ago.

4. The Aborogines used Hanging Rock 'as a place of initiation for millenia until they were literally rounded up and forced off the land in the early 1800's.

5. They did not climb the rock itself because they believed that there were harmful spirits that lived there. This is something I've seen in various articles but no one has explained just why this belief developed. The Aborogines must have had a reason to believe that the area had 'harmful spirits' and it would be very interesting to know what stories lie behind that belief.

6. The author says that Hanging Rock is not actually very big.

7. The story is fiction.

8.The exhibit at Hanging Rock Visitor centre 'discusses the tale as if it were 100% true, even mentioning newspaper reports about the disappearances.'

9. There are no newspaper reports of that nature.

10. Some people believe a police station burned down and took with it the records of what happened. No such thing actually happened.

11. Some people believe the girls went off with their boyfriends.

12. The author believes that the book 'is a metaphor for the clast of post-colonial Australia with its very British heritage.'

13. There is some strange magnetic activity in the area. This could be due to the types of rocks in the area.

14. There is a place nearby where cars seem to roll uphill.

15. There are reports of watches and other electronic things not working in the area. The author was ther and her phone kept switching off.

16. She says that time passes strangely there.
