Blood & Judgment

This is a ontroversial mini series in one complete volume from DC comics.

The basic story is that it is the present time, and agents that had worked with the Shadow, all quite old now, are being killed off one by one. This is to draw the Shadow out from where he has been for the past decades, and when he returns he's in the same physical age and condition as when he was last seen.

He also brings his two sons, and they end up having to confront the mastermind behind the killings, and that is none other than Lamont Cranston, who uses his “son” who was created as a perfect physical vessel that was to carry Cranston's implanted mind.

That the story was controversial is understandable. The Shadow has been living in Shambala. He has two sons. His trusted agents are being killed by Cranston. All of these things could cause fans of the original pulp Shadow to have problems with the story.

The Shambala part could be understandable, but the use of Cranston as the villain doesn't make a whole lot of sense, at least to me. It could have been anyone trying to do the same type of thing. I think it would have been more interesting to have had the Shadow return to the present and have to adapt to the various cultural changes that have gone on in the country.

One problem with that, though, is the technological crime-fighting changes. A present-day Shadow would probably have to have his own arsenal of information devices and weapons and, in that respect, would really become like Batman.

Even with its problems, this comic series is better than some of the other Shadow series stories that DC came up with.
