Crime Classics 4

Lamont/the Shadow gets thrown into a pit. (This is another thing that bothers me about the comics: how the Shadow's identity is so easily found out by other people. It's just so far off the pulp stories. )

(Another thing: I don't think the Shadow lends itself to cartoon strips at all. Part of the beauty of the pulps is the long explanations of things that have happened, are happening or will happen. Cartoon strips cannot take the time to do that type of description; they are pretty much limited to the action-oriented high spots of the story. I just don't think this suits the Shadow well at all.)

The Shadow escapes the pit and ends up being helped by the secretary who is herself helping someone else. When the mob goes to the house where the treasures are they are met by police who have been notified by the secretary.

The actual ending is almost too quick and not that believable or satisfactory.

Another story starts, “Danger on Shark Island.”

Lamont is at the Cobalt Club where some guys are talking about making fortified bases in the Caribbean to protect the US. The Shadow calls the police to tell them some crook is on the way to steal the plans to the bases.

The Shadow catches a spy who is taken to a consul and sentenced to Shark Island. It turns out, though, that the spy is really dead and it's the Shadow who is taking his place for some reason.

Someone tries to kill the Shadow not long after he gets on the island but they miss. The dagger has a note from someone called the Dagger, probably some kind of criminal boss of the imprisoned criminals or something.

The crooks find out the Shadow is disguised as Otho, the spy, and they plan to kill him.
