DC The Shadow #12

Margo and Harry are in a car going to New Gotham, a Revolutionary War tourist town. The tire of their car is shot and the car crashes. Harry and Margo try to fight off robed attackers, but they are overwhelmed. The leader of the group tells them to throw Harry into a river, while Margo will remain captive.

The Shadow questions a weight-lifter from Russia about his companion, Ivan the Possessed. Margo is held captive and sees the townspeople dancing madly around her. Others were destroyed the only entrance into the town. The leader wants Margo to give her soul to the devil, and when she refuses he plans to kill her.

The Shadow shows up and frees Margo. Harry turns up. He has been brainwashed, though, and attacks Margo and the Shadow who are then taken by the leader, the mad Russian, and forced to submit to the dunking technique used against those suspected of witchcraft, to force them to weaken and accept the leader.

The mad Russian was also posing as a priest, and planned to turn people into zombie soldiers and let the Germans use them for the upcoming war. The Shadow chases the guy and the evil villain falls from a high church tower. Bad guy go splat.
