Malmordo

This isn't the best of the Shadow novels. To me, the Shadow is a minor character for maybe 80% of the book, not becoming really active until the last part of the book. The evil Malmordo also just doesn't seem to be as nasty a villain as the Shadow usually encounters.

The concept is that Malmordo is a guy who looks like a rat and has his own gang. The boat he was responsible for was sneaking in exotic birds, not the normal high-level crime that crooks perform in Shadow novels.

There are some gypsies involved, and Harry and Hawkeye both play roles in the story. The police play a much larger role than normal, as does the commissioner and Cardona.
