The Living Joss

This is one of the Shadow stories where Chinatown and evil Chinese play a major role. The main characters is Kwa, known as The Living Joss, the head of a group of Chinese. There's also a group of guys involved in a business deal who, one-by-one, are killed off by Kwa's henchmen.

There's also a guy who willingly works for Kwa via spying on others.

Harry Vincent and Clyde Burke are both used in this story. There's also mention of Lamont Cranston's valet, Richards.

There's a lot of the racial approach against the Chinese so popular at the time, primarily where the Chinese are depicted as monkeys.

It's a good Shadow story, nevertheless. The evil guys get caught and punished (and are often dead by the end of the story), the main villain is dealt with, and that's something readers like. Basically a simpler time than today when the evil-doers are often people of wealth and power in the business world who usually manage to avoid paying for their crimes against people.
