Gypsy Vengeance

The body of a man that had been killed and sunk in the water is examined. One of them is a gypsy (Valdo), the other a policeman. There are also a couple of newspapermen and one of them is one of the Shadow's agents. Before long the shadow has a report from Burbank, and the Shadow moves forward in his investigation of crime.

Apparently a series of robberies has been going on, and the shadow attacks the robbers while they try to pull off another theft. The leader (Lunk) escapes, but the others are subdued and taken by the police.

There is a fortune in diamonds and other jewelry from one of the thefts and the former gang leader is trying to find them. Lunk knows the Shadow is a threat, but he feels he has a perfect plan for getting the diamonds, along with his cohort, Jerwyn.

The Shadow attends a party in the guise of Lamont Cranston and watches the gypsy woman give a reading. Jerwyn is her manager. The woman recognizes a jewel that the woman she is reading for as one of the pieces of the missing fortune.

The Shadow spies on a meeting of Jerwyn and Valdo. Things get much more complicated, though, as a showdown at a persons castle-like home comes ever closer.

Finally, the Shadow is at the home and he needs to deal with around a dozen thugs, around twenty gypsies, the leader of the thugs (Lunk), and a man named Casper who also appears to be evil. A really, really funny scene happens when the shadow is climbing the outer wall at night and some of the gypsies see him. They mistake him for a vampire and run into the woods.

Not everything is as it appears to be, though, and one of the individuals involved has a direct tie with the missing gems.

This is another really good Shadow story with lots of action and even some humor.
