Power of the Mind, April 24, 1938

Another episode with a rather long musical opening. It also opens with an ad for the Goodrich tires.

A newspaper hawker is yelling out the headlines about the disappearance of a famous scientist who has worked with explosives. Secret Service agents are involved in the search for the professor.

A German-sounding woman comes into a guys cabin, asking if he has made the American scientist talk yet. He's being tortured. They can hear the American screaming in the background, about to give up.

He talks about finding gold at the end of the rainbow. Apparently the professor's mind has cracked. The countess and the guy have an argument. The guy says he knows a psychiatrist that might be able to get the secret out of the professor.

Lamont Cranston is talking to the same psychiatrist. The psychiatrist asks Lamont about the Shadow. The guy seems to understand the Shadow's powers. The psychiatrist has worked in mental telepathy.

The doctor is given a message. It's from the countess and the German guy. The psychiatrist goes with the two. Later Margo visits Lamont. Apparently the psychiatrist has been trying to contact the Shadow to say that he (the professor) is in danger.

Margo finds out that the professor has disappeared. The guy has given the Shadow the name of the ship he's being held on. Lamont plans to go to the dock and check out the ship as the Shadow.

Then it's time for another commercial.

On the ship the German guy is talking to the professor who has had no success with the American scientist so far. The German guy threatens to have the psychiatrist beaten. The whip has been taken from the hands of the huge torturer.

The guy is mentally deficient. The German guy thinks the professor is trying to fog the torturer's mind. The German guy pulls a gun and then suddenly the voice of the Shadow is heard. The big guy says it's like the laughter of Satin.

The psychiatrist is happy that the mental telepathy worked. The German guy (Ricter) is not scared of the Shadow. The big dumb guy leaves. Ricter orders the ship to set sail. Somehow the Shadow and the psychiatrist are locked in a room by Ricter.

Apparently Margo Lane has come on board. The Shadow calls Margo on the radio, but she doesn't answer. The Shadow sounds scared, which is quite unrealistic.

(How did the three men start in the same room then suddenly have the Shadow and the psychiatrist totally separate from Ricter?)

The Shadow gets a message to the Coast Guard on the radio.

The psychiatrist has been helping to heal the scientist's mind. Margo talks to the Shadow. He tells Margo she needs to get off the ship before the Coast Guard cutter gets there. She opens the door of the room he is in; she plans to jump off the ship and swim to shore.

Ricter and the big guy end up in the same room as the Shadow, the psychiatrist and the scientist. Suddenly they can all hear the sound of the Coast Guard. Ricter orders full speed ahead, and the Coast Guard cutter fires a warning shot, causing the Captain to stop the ship.

Ricter and the Shadow fight; the gun falls to the floor but the big guy won't take the gun. The psychiatrist picks up the gun, and the Shadow knocks him out. The Coast Guard comes up next to the ship.
