Aboard the Steamship Amazon, 7-17-1938

Standard longish opening followed by a commercial start off the show.

Sounds of a party on board a ship. Some guy is looking for his stepmother, and some woman has won some money. The guy talks to his stepmother. They are also talking to another guy who has smuggled weapons and plans a revolution in a Spanish-speaking country. The guy thinks the whole thing is funny.

Boxes marked “electric refrigerators” have the weapons in them. The guy also has a Japanese valet. His stepmother plans to rule the land after the resolution.

The guy gets a telegram. It's from the general of the country they are going to stage the revolution in. The guy goes to get his codebook and decode the telegram in his room. The other guy keeps talking to the stepmother who would benefit financially if her stepson were to die.

Margot and Lamont are also on the ship. They talk briefly to the stepson, Randy. Lamont wants Margot to talk to Randy and she does. Randy says he's in a jam. Randy asks Margot to leave him alone. Then the voice of the Shadow is heard. The Shadow plans to talk to Randy.

Maria is the stepmother. Tan Suey is Randy's valet. They open the door of the cabin to talk to Randy (Randolph). He is holding an ancient Indian knife. Randy says the radiogram was not really important and he destroyed it. Everyone thinks Randy is lying. They grab Randy, then find the actual message. The revolution plan has been discovered, and the general has ordered them to blow up the weapons and ammunition.

Randy doesn't want to blow up the ship (which has the ammunition, etc., on it). He threatens to expose everything. Maria (the name might be Marie; it's hard for me to tell) kills Randy with the knife; she makes it look like a suicide. They plan to blow up the ship after dark.

Margot and Lamont are at Randy's cabin; they get someone to open the cabin. They find Randy's body in his cabin.

Maria acts like she is upset. The ship's captain objects to Lamont Cranston trying to find out things about the Randy's death.

Then it's time for the mid-program commercial.

Tan Suey is in a room and he hears the voice of the Shadow after a ship's steward leaves. He brings out the telegram and puts it on a table, then he runs from the room.

Tan Suey tells Maria and the guy and says the Shadow has the telegram. They plan to lower a boat and flee before the ship is blown up. While they are talking they hear the voice of the Shadow. The Shadow had taken the code book.

It's a foggy night. The Shadow talks to the captain of the ship. He tells him the ship is in danger. He tells the captain about the explosives in the hold of the ship. Then he adds that Randolph Todd was murdered. The captain is going to go below to check things out and take a couple of guys with him.

Tan Suey, Maria and the other guy are working on opening the boxes of explosives. The captain and his guys arrive. Maria and the guy have guns and are holding them on the captain and his men. Tan Suey is left with the guys. Then Tan Suey hears the voice of the Shadow and the Shadow grabs him and makes him drop the gun.

The captain and his guys rush Maria and the other guy and stop them from setting off the explosives. The Shadow says Tan Suey will hang for the murder of Randy, but Tan Suey says Maria is really the one to kill Randy. The captain's guys shoot and kill Maria.
