The Case of the Vanishing Killer; Aug. 8, 1954

Another review based on a script. Characters include Thompson Hamlin, a young man who drinks too much; Mr. Feeney, a cabdriver; Mr. Lusardi, a restaurant owner; Hugo Kirk, the owner of a nightclub; Rose Marcel, a hostess at the nightclub, and Joe, Hugo Kirk's driver.

Lamont and Margot are heading towards her apartment. They are almost run down by a cab and it's on purpose, as Hamlin told the cab driver to stop them. He tells them he had married an older woman and, two days previously, came home from a business trip to find her dead.

The story was that she committed suicide, but Hamlin thinks she was murdered and wants Lamont's help. They go to Margot's apartment and talk to Hamlin and Feeney, who has a lot to say about that night. Feeney has a match folder from an Italian restaurant.

They go there and find out from the owner that the drunk with eating dinner with Rose at that restaurant. Marcel Rose works at a gambling joint owned by Hugo Kirk.

Rose refuses to talk to them, though. Tommy has slipped out, and Lamont thinks he might be the person they are looking for. Meanwhile, Hamlin talks to Kirk. Kirk wants Lamont and Margot dealt with.

Later an angry and drunk Tommy calls Kirk and is mad since Kirk hasn't had Lamont and Margot taken care of yet; he tells Kirk to forget it, that he'll do the job himself.

Lamont talks to Rose who is uncooperative at first, until he suggests that it was her that murdered Hamlin's wife. While Lamont is talking to her someone shoots and kills her.

Tommy shows up at Margot's apartment and threatens to kill her and Lamont. Lamont shows up and Tommy backs down from killing them and runs off.

Kirk shows up in a car and forces Tommy to get in. Suddenly the car's ignition turns off, and then the all hear the voice of the Shadow. Joe is the driver and the Shadow hits him. The Shadow takes Kirk's gun and says Kirk was the one who killed Tommy's wife and Rose, both.

The Shadow tells Tommy to drive the car to police headquarters so Kirk can be turned in.

Then the episode has Lamont basically going over what happened in the murder of Hamlin's wife.
