The Message From The Hills, July 31, 1938

Opening music and narration, and then the opening commercial for car tires.

The story opens with a crook and his group looking at a map. One of them has an English accent. They are going to go to a diamond mine by plane and take a diamond shipment. The boss says that all the mine overseers (?) will be killed.

Lamont and Margot just happen to be landing at the same diamond mine. The house servant named Tenga is feeling upset due to the death of his son. His wife had sent him a telepathic message telling them their son had died.

(Why do they just happen to be visiting the mine?)

The shipment is to be sent off the following week. Lamont tries to warn them that crooks could land on the island on a plane, but the guy doesn't pay attention to him. He gives Tenga a message from the office with news that his son had died.

Lamont walks to talk to Tenga and console him, but the British major won't let him, saying they (the British) want to keep a proper distance from the native.

Lamont plans to talk to Tenga as the Shadow. Soon the Shadow talks to Tenga. The Shadow consoles him and is friendly to him. The Shadow says that the major does not believe in telepathy. The Shadow says he will remain Tenga's friend even though he will be going away soon.

Margot and Lamont are at some kind of ball. They have returned from the hills with the diamond mine. Lamont talks to Margot. Lamont says he was having a conversation with Tenga by telepathy, a hundred miles away. Tenga had told him about some kind of danger but didn't get to finish his message because Margot interrupted.

Lamont tells Margot to concentrate, and they can hear the voice of Tenga. Tenga says white men came to the mine and made war. The “bad white men” came in a “big sky bird.” They were heavily armed and wanted to steal the diamonds. Tenga says the plane had been fixed so it couldn't fly, and the guy who did that was killed.

There are eight crooks. They plan to kill everyone.

Time for the mid-program commercial.

Lamont tries to convince the governor of the island that something has gone wrong at the diamond mine. The governor will not let him use a plane or any men. Lamont says the plane will be taken by The Shadow.

A couple of the guards are talking. The plane is in a hanger. They hear a door open but don't see anyone. Then the hanger door opens; they hear the voice of the Shadow. The two guards run away, and Lamont and Margot take the plane.

Before long they land near the mine. The robbers hear the plane and head towards it. They grab Margot and take her out of the plane. The robbers plan to take the plane and escape the island. Then the voice of the Shadow is heard.

One of the crooks tells Tenga to get the boss some drinks. Tenga hears the Shadow. He finds out where the good guys have been locked up; he will follow Tenga into the room.

Tenga goes into the room with the drinks. Margot is in there with the crooks. Tenga leaves the room. The diamonds are on a table. One of the crooks says the planes three motors have been messed with. The voice of the Shadow is heard by the boss, Jordan. The diamonds have been taken from the table by the Shadow. The crook starts to hurt Margot, but the Shadow knocks him out.

Margot lets the good guys out of the room. There's a machine gun on the table, and other weapons the guys can use. Two of the crooks arrive, and the machine gun makes short work of them.

Tenga talks to the Shadow. More shoots are heard from outside; another crook dies. Native drums can be heard, and Tenga says the boys in the jungle will kill them.

The Shadow says the crook forgot “crime always brings it's own penalty.”
