The Creeper, Aug. 7, 1938

A slightly shorter opening then the last set of episodes, followed by a normal Goodrich commercial.

The episode opens with a storm, and a woman asking her mother if the storm frightens her. Some voice is heard, and says she is going to take the young woman away to join other women who were once young and beautiful.

Cranston arrives at Margo's apartment. Margo says a friend of hers has disappeared, and she gives him what details she has. The houses supposedly have excellent burglar alarms, but there have been five robberies, a couple of murders, etc.

Margo wants Cranston to come with her, but he says he can't at the moment, but the Shadow will become involved.

Commissioner Weston is interviewing the mother of the lady who disappeared. He talks to someone who checked all the doors of the house; another man says all the rooms of the house have been thoroughly checked.

Another woman calls a moving company, saying she wants to move out right then and doesn't want to spend another night in the section. A butler somewhere else says he plans to leave. A newspaper goes after Weston, wanting action on what has been going on.

Margo meets Cranston at the library. He has been looking at old maps and records of the city. The map is an old, old map about a water conduit that was abandoned with only part of it built. The district where the crimes have happened lie directly over the abandoned water conduit.

No money or jewelry have been stolen; things like furniture and paintings have, along with lots of food.

He plans to have Margo go to a certain mansion and he, as the Shadow, will join her.

There's odd sounds in a house and a couple of servants are talking about leaving. Then we hear the voice of the Shadow. He finds a stone slab that has a hollow ring when struck.

A woman is talking to Margo at the house. It's the woman who's the mother of Margo's friend. Margo goes to answer a phone. It's Cranston, asking her to come to the basement.

She gets to the basement where Lamont is. The stone slab is an entrance to a hole which explains how someone can get in and out of the house without being seen. Lamont goes to get a clothesline to use to go down into the hole, but while he's gone Margo is captured.

Then it's time for a commercial, again using the voice of the Shadow for part of it.

Margo is still screaming. Someone, a male, is talking about the Creeper bringing someone else to where he, along with others, is being held captive. One guy has been there for two months. One guy has to knock another guy out cause the second guy was screaming and yelling.

The Creeper is talking to Margo. He's putting chains on her. The guy says he did kill one person because he kept trying to get away and would not talk to him. The Creeper says he's taking Margo to the others. The Creeper says all men fear him. Then the voice of the Shadow is heard. Margo says he is hearing the Shadow.

The Creeper can't see the Shadow. The Shadow explains he casts a veil across the guy's mind so he can't see the Shadow. The Shadow snatches a chain from the Creeper and throws it away. Then the Creeper draws a gun and admits to killing a night watchman.

The Shadow tells the Creeper to shoot. He threatens to kill Margo, but the Shadow grabs the Creeper. There's a shot; Margo was hit in the shoulder by the bullet; the Shadow has knocked out the Creeper.

He tends to Margo's wound. She tells Lamont to leave her there and go help the others. The Creeper has escaped. She says she will try to get to the police and get help, and that Lamont should go after the Creeper.

Then it's back to the captured group. The Creeper has come back. He moves to a chair he calls the throne, then he turns towards the captives. The Creeper threatens to kill all the captives. He has some dynamite. Before he can do anything with it, he hears the voice of the Shadow.

He tells the captive they have nothing to fear from him. The Creeper is holding some dynamite. The Shadow taunts the Creeper into following his voice. He gets the Creeper to the end of the tunnel and the Creeper lights the dynamite and throws it. There's an explosion.

Then we're back to Lamont entering Margo's room. The papers have reported that the Shadow was killed in the explosion, but the others were freed. He used voice projection to trick the Creeper into the dead end.
