Shyster Payoff 11-6-1938

This is another recording that seems to be scratched, dropping some words at various places.

Reporters are talking to Commissioner Weston about a crime wave that is going on. Weston talks about a shyster lawyer. The Shadow is on the phone. The Shadow wants to set it up so Weston can get all the crooks and the shyster lawyer at the same time.

The next scene is in the courtroom with the shyster lawyer complaining about something. Lamont and Margo are there. They have been following the shyster lawyer in various trials.

Later. Lamont and Margo are following the lawyer in their car. Margo stays in the car. The shyster lawyer is in an apartment. He had her lie during her testimony. He says they can earn a lot of money by working for him. They will go into jewelry stores and look at certain gems, but the rest I can't make out.

Later. Lamont and Margo are in their car following Tiggert, the shyster lawyer. Margo takes the car elsewhere and waits, while Lamont checks out a house that Tiggert has gone to.

Tiggert is talking to a doctor that he got out of prison. The doctor is to treat wounded criminals and do other things for them. (A lot of skipping here). Tiggert gives the doctor some money. Then he hears the voice of the Shadow, after Tiggert has left. The Shadow admits he's using hypnosis to cloud his mind.

The former doctor agrees to help the Shadow.

Then there's a commercial.

Later: Margo and Lamont are in a car, going to a place where the former doctor has been taken. The driver of the getaway car was shot, so the former doctor is treating him. Margo is to man the radio and phone Weston when the Shadow is ready.

Inside; the doctor is treating the shot guy. There are some gangsters there, plus Tiggert. Then he hears the voice of the Shadow. The doctor explains who is who among the crooks. The doctor takes a crooks gun.

The Shadow calls Margo on the radio. (Where is he getting this radio? Does he lug the thing around with him?)

Tiggert is supervising paying off various criminals and those helping them. A guy and his sister want to quit helping the crooks. Then they hear the voice of the Shadow. One of the crooks recognizes the voice of the Shadow. The doctor holds the gun against Tiggert.

The sound of police cars can be heard. The guy and his sister say they will testify against Tiggert and the crooks. The police get there. One of the things they take are the gang's financial books. The doctor tells them about the wounded man so he can be taken to the hospital. Weston then talks to the Shadow.
