Circle of Death, Nov. 28, 1937

This is another Blue Coal-sponsored episode.

Some people are at a party, including a newlywed couple. Some kind of strange sound happens. Apparently there were three bombings and fifteen people killed.

The killer sends warning to the newspapers with a note that says he hates crowds. Another explosion occurs, this time a car being blown up. Five more people die.

Lamont and Margo are listening to the radio. The police commissioner is under considerable pressure to solve the bombings. Lamont sends Margo to the protest crowd and tells her to yell that the Shadow could solve the crimes.

Lamont plans to tie in to the speaker system and broadcast as the Shadow.

The mob is quite upset. The commissioner is speaking, telling what he's done to stop the bomber. Margo does her yell about the Shadow. The commissioner says the Shadow could be a criminal himself. He says his department has never worked with the Shadow. He challenges the Shadow to uncover any evidence his men have overlooked.

At that moment the Shadow's voice comes over the speakers. The Shadow dares the killer to be at a certain place at a certain time.

(The newspaper is only 2 cents.)

The murderer buys the paper and talks about how he hates people and their noise. He says he'll accept the Shadow's challenge. The guy has a weird laugh.

The police have 250 men in the area of the arcade for the Shadow's challenge. The Shadow calls the police commissioner. The Shadow tells him not to interfere. The Shadow wants him to keep the crowd moving through the narrow arcade.

Next is another commercial for Blue Coal.

The police do try to keep the people moving. There are two minutes left in the time given for the killer to show up. The bell for 6:00 rings. The killer has left a piece of paper behind, saying he'll kill lots of people at 11:00 that night.

Lamont tells Margo he has found the maniac and he will have to handle the situation alone.

The killer shows up and has a badge saying he's a night watchman in the entertainment system. The police let him threw their lines. He really is a night watchman in the area.

He mutters about killing the people and the Shadow. The guy says he is alone, but then the Shadow starts talking. The Shadow tells him he picked him out of the crowd, and that his eyes showed him and that it showed that he hates crowds.

The Shadow tells him he followed him to his home and then to the tunnels where he works. Anton tells the Shadow that he should leave so he can do his work. The Shadow tells Anton that he wants to learn and that maybe they can work together, and that he hates crowds (playing to the madman's insanity). Anton shows him where he keeps the dynamite. Anton shows the Shadow how he prepares the dynamite.

Anton shows the Shadow how he gets the dynamite to where he wants it to go off. He hooks the dynamite to a rod under the car and he lights the fuse.

The Shadow puts the fuse out, though. Anton realizes that the Shadow had tricked him.

Anton still has the piece of dynamite in his hands. He wants to light the dynamite, thinking he will kill himself and the Shadow both. The Shadow suggests a way to kill lots and lots of people.

The Shadow tells Anton to hypnotize the police and make them think they can't see him. Anton laughs and says he'll try. He starts to walk past the police and says they can't see him, but the police grab him and take the dynamite.

Then the program closes with another commercial for Blue Coal.
