Island of the Devil, 1-8-1939

This opens with a commercial for Goodrich lifesaver tubes that self-seal punctures while you ride.

Two guys are talking, one of them some kind of jailor on an island. It's night; one guy carries a lantern. Some guy opens a rusty lock and there's some guy that's been in a cell (?) for twenty years. The guy keeps saying Madame Renae over and over. (The other two guys sound like Germans.)

Cranston has the woman on a ship with him and Margo. They are heading towards 'the island of the devil.' There are criminals on the island. Madame Renae has no sympathy for the men sent there.

The commandant meets with a prisoner. It's the same guy that says Madame Renae over and over. The commandment says the guy is getting a pardon. The prisoner says he's coming back for Madame Renae.

Lamont and a guy named Mr. Randall arrive at the boat. (It seemed to be anchored off shore). Lamont has gotten permission to land on the island. Randall is bringing a pardon to a guy whose been there for twenty years. The woman faints. When she's brought around she says she wants to talk to Randall privately. He tells her who the pardon is for. She says she knows the man. She stabs Randall and kills him.

Commercial time. It's about obeying signs while driving. Then it goes on to talk about the Goodrich tires and safety tubes.

There's dense fog and he knows Randall must be in the water. Lamont is suspicious of Madame Renae. He plans to pay her a visit as the Shadow. She turns on the light but sees no one. He asks her why she let Randall die. She breaks and says Randall had to die, that the guy he was carrying a pardon for had to stay on the island.

Lamont arrives on the island and meets the commandant. John Barth (?) is the name of the prisoner. Lamont asks to be taken to the guy. Barth has disappeared. Some guy has told Barth that his pardon was denied. They spot a ship and a ladder has been lowered. Barth climbs onto the ship.

Barth runs into Madame Renae who has arranged for his escape. She locks the door. He remembers her voice. He recognizes her. He has wanted to kill her the entire time. She goes over what she did to him apparently during the first World War. She brought him to the boat to kill him.

Then the voice of the Shadow is heard. The Shadow tells Barth that his pardon was real and that Madame Renae interfered with it. She shoots with a gun that was hidden in her dress. She has killed Barth.

The Shadow tells Madame Renae that he'll keep talking to her all the time. He will follow her. She tries to run away. She jumps overboard and drowns.
