Ghosts Can Kill, 1-15-1939

A Blue Coal commercial starts the program. (The recording is not in great shape; there's a number of strange sounds on it).

The story opens in a court trial. A guy (Ralph Gorman) is on trial for murder. The jury retires. Lamont and Margo are there. The jury returns and finds Gorman guilty of murder in the first degree. Gorman threatens to kill others from the grave. He even names his would-be victims. Gorman is sentenced to death.

Gorman insists on playing a mouth organ during the trial and even in the 'death house.' Gorman's due to be executed soon and he claims he'll kill two people, then decides to add the governor to his list of would-be victims.

Gorman has been electrocuted. The scene shifts to the home of one of the men Gorman had named he would kill. The guy hears music from a mouth organ. He opens a door and sees Gorman and he's shot by him.

Lamont and Margo are out walking. He hears a newspaper hawker selling a paper noting the death of the guy. Lamont goes to the scene of the crime. Cardona and Weston are both there. Weston seems to want to show up Lamont's 'amateur theories on crime.' Lamont suggests Weston put guards around the other people named as would-be victims.

Time for another Blue Coal commercial.

One of the targets is talking to his fiancee on the phone. He gets a phone call from the Shadow. The Shadow is warning him and suggests he apply for police protection. The guy claims he's not afraid of anyone. He changes his mind and plans to call Commissioner Weston. The guy says he hears a mouth organ. The guy had left the door unlocked and Weston can hear Gorman talk and shoot the guy.

Margo and Lamont are talking. She says something that gives Lamont a clue. They then take off in her car. (Apparently she doesn't drive very well.) They are going to the hotel the governor is staying in (he's due to make a speech.) Lamont gets out.

The governor is talking to a porter. The governor gets in a car to go to a club. While in the car the governor hears a mouth organ. The driver is heading the car towards the river. It's Gorman driving the car. It seems the governor has died already. Then Gorman hears the voice of the Shadow who says the governor has just fainted.

The Shadow says the guy is Gorman's twin brother. This helped explain how alibi's were easy to come up with that way. The Shadow pulls the emergency brake. The car hits the warehouse wall. The governor is okay. The twin brother is dead.
