The League of Terror, Jan. 9, 1938

Blue Coal is the sponsor of this episode, and the episode opens with a commercial for the coal.

The show opens during a court trial dealing with counterfeit money. It seems a witness has been threatened and has altered his sworn testimony. The defendants are set free. The witness, though, is sentenced to one year in prison for perjury.

So the crooks go free, and the innocent guy goes to prison.

Lamont and Margo are in the courtroom. The counterfeit ring is affecting a lot of people, apparently.

The two go shopping at the witness' store. The guy's wife has a gun there and she plans to use it on the counterfeiters if they come to the store again.

Lamont and Margo arrive to buy some groceries. The woman is suspicious of them and she brings out her gun. Someone is watching the store from across the street. Lamont wants her to pretend she knows more than she does in order to help free her father.

Two guys go into the store; Lamont sends Margo out of the area and tells her to use the short-wave radio he has.

Then it's time for another commercial. A 200 degree range of temperatures in Canada?

Egg, stove, chestnut and pea are the sizes of the coal.

The two crooks take the woman from the grocery to see a higher-up.

They have her in some building on the waterfront. They plan to hurt her to make her say what she knows about the big boss. She faints and then the crooks hear the voice of the Shadow.

The Shadow reminds one of the two crooks of another crook that he managed to stop. The Shadow tells them to tell the big boss that, if anything happens to the girl from the store, the boss will have to answer to the Shadow. One of the crooks shoots and it sounds like the Shadow has been hit.

The crooks take the woman with them to a yacht which is where the big boss dwells. The Shadow calls Margo on the radio. He tells her to call the police commissioner and notify the harbor patrol boats where to find the big boss and his yacht.

The guys bring the woman to the big boss and he's not happy with them. One of the crooks starts talking about the Shadow and the boss seems to know about him. The crook claims he shot the Shadow, but the big boss doesn't believe he the Shadow was actually shot.

Then the voice of the Shadow is heard in the boat. The crook shoots again and misses again. The crook fires again and ends up shooting the other crook. So the second crook returns the fire and shoots the first one. The Shadow says the big boss ordered the first crook to kill him.

The boss shoots the first crook again (who finally dies). This leave the Shadow and the big boss alone.

The police sirens can be heard approaching. The Shadow wants to make it look like the boss shot the crooks himself. The boss has a switch on his belt and it's tied to a bomb.

The boss throws the switch and nothing happens. The Shadow had cut the wires which ran along the wire. The police break in and grab the big boss. The Shadow tells the police commissioner that the guy they have is the leader of the counterfeit gang. The police commissioner says that the woman's father will be freed from prison in the morning.

The Shadow says that his reward is in protecting the defenseless from those who have not learned that crime does not pay.
