Shadow Comics; Lelfler & Sienkiewicz series, 1-6, "Shadows and Light"

The first six issues of this comic comprise a story in which the background of the Shadow is given briefly; how he left to return to his mystical studies; had two sons; returned and found that some of his old agents were being murdered.

One of the major villains he faced, Shiwan Khan, returns with a world domination idea of his own. A strange religious leader appears with his followers dying in a Waco-like manner. Some of the Shadow's elder agents become involved in things, along with two sons that the Shadow now has. There's also an elderly detective Joe Cardona in on the action, plus lots of computer geeks.

There's a lot of blood and gore in the series, too.

The series was done in the late 80's so it's also a sort of 'Can the Shadow continue to fight crime effectively in a technological age?' type of thing.

Some of the people working for the Shadow in the present seem to be, to put a polite spin on it, rather bumbling but still dedicated. I personally don't care much for the style of the artwork but that's all personal taste. The story itself is complex but still pretty good.
