This starts a four-part storyline with both the Shadow and Doc Savage. It starts with several crooks being murdered. A scientist has invented a terrible weapon and has been kidnapped. A woman gets Doc Savage to help her. A lot of the Shadow's agents are involved. The Shadow is shot while undercover and is captured by Doc Savage who plans to operate on him, thinking he's a crook.
