Metaphysical Teachers Aren't Perfect
We often expect too much of our teachers. Medicine People and similar teachers are all-too-often placed on a massive pedestal. We believe they have solved all of life's problems, and all we have to do is imitate them and we will become enlightenment. We buy the books, videos, etc. of these people and expect all of our own problems to be instantly solved by just following the instructions in the manual.
Unfortunately, life isn't that simple. The various spiritual teachers are human beings, subject to the same faults as others. Maybe these people have learned how to reduce the number of their faults, and maybe they've learned how to help others reduce faults of their own, but these people are still not perfect! It is wrong to expect them to be, and it is only setting us up for major disappointment.
On the other hand there are those people who are wanna-be teachers. They take a course in psychology, or worse still read a book on psychology or some other new-age type philosophy, and think that they instantly have the answers to all of life's questions.
Learning to help people is a lifetime undertaking, and you can't pick up everything you need to know from a book, a course, or a single person. THERE IS NO INSTANT ENLIGHTENMENT! All of this metaphysical work takes time and effort. There are no shortcuts. If reincarnation is true then the process of "enlightenment" takes numerous lifetimes. There is no "quick" way to attain spiritual enlightnment/awareness.
The worst group of people, though, are those who believe that their "enlightenment" gives them the right to impose their beliefs upon others. Their own "superior" spiritual attainment gives them the "right" to talk-down to others, to show others "the error of their ways" and set them upon the "true path to enlightenment."
These are the worst of all. Such people become so filled with themselves that they get on an ego-trip of such proportions than any true spiritual attainment they had goes out the window. When they set themselves up as "greater" than other people they set themselves up as great fools.
The process of opening our spiritual awareness is not quick. It is not easy. Various spiritual teachers can help, of course, but no spiritual teacher has all the answers. They are on their own paths and their own paths are not exactly the same as your path.
Seeking help is fine. You need, though, to remain open-minded but still possess a degree of skepticism. Don't take spoon-fed philosophy. Research, question, meditate, then adapt the best of whatever you have learned to your own conditions. Treat others with respect and compassion. We are all on our own journeys. Each person has their own contribution to make to life.
