Star Trek Discovery Basic Card Set

Episode 1: The Vulcan Hello

The first episode stars out with a differnet starship, the USS Shenzhou. Michael Burnham is First Officer. She encounters Klingon on an unidentified ship and kills him after he tries to kill her and this leads to massive trouble. She gets in severe trouble with Captain Georgiou and ends up being found guilty of treason.

The differnet appearance of the Klingons from what had gone before was not really expected. Mutiny was a very rare thing in the Star Trek series. The series starts off quite dark and this is one thing I noticed in both seasons 1 and 2 and that was just how dark the entire series was.

I think that was a pretty major problem for the first two seasons of the show as it varied so much from established Star Trek philosophy. Star Trek tried to be a positive show even if the characters had to go through a lot of bad things they still managed to come out the other side, maybe shaken but still standing strong.

Episode 2: Battle at the Binary Stars

So the Klingon/Federation war starts with tremendous loss of life on both sides. Georgiou ends up being killed (and apparently eaten by the Klingons) and the Klingon Voq becomes a major character.

This was another dark episode, especially with the death of Captin Georgiou.

Episode 3: Context is for Kings

Burham ends up on the USS Discovery after Captain Lorca specifically requests her presence. That's a little hard to believe that after being found guilty of mutiny and being involved in the start of the Klingon war that there is any way any captain could have gottten her out of prison. That part is a little unrealistic.

There's a disaster on a sister ship, a strange creature and Lorca working in the shadows on something.

Again, another very dark episode especially with so many being killed on the other Federation starship.

Episode 4: The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry

The creature is a giant Tardigrade and is to be used in a new propulsion system. Soon the Discovery is in a fight, attacking Klingson who are attacking a Federation colony. A female Klingon, L'Rell, is loyal to Voq and this will lead to a major theme in the show.

Episode 5: Chose Your Pain

Harry Mudd is, to be, a disgusting creature. I didn't like him when he was on the orignal series and in this series he's even way worse than before. This makes this episode one of my least favorite of the first two seasons.

Lorca was a captive on a Klingon ship but manages to escape, beinging another Starfleet officer with him, a person that is basically an enemy plant.

Episode 6: Lethe

The episode has backstory for Sarak and Burnham. A lot of people were quite upset at Burnham being revealed as Spock's adopted sister since there had been no mention of any such person in any of the other series. I'm guessing that was done so the new series could being in a fan favorite, Spock. The concept of the Vulcan mind meld is also stretched pretty far in this episode as it shows that Burhman and Sarak don't even have to be near to each other at all to use Vulcan telepathy. Cadet Tilly I think is an interesting character, my guess is being added for a little comic relief at times.

I just accepted things being set up as they were as far as Sarak and Burham's relationship.

Episode 7: Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad

Without doubt my least favorite episode of the first two seasons, especially since it had Harry Mudd again. The episode show just how evil this form of Mudd is and I would have liked to have seen him either killed or sent to a maximum security prison. The solution that was found I thought just wasn't that satisfactory.

Episode 8: Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

This episode is somewhat spiritual in nature with a planet of seemingly peace-loving life forms and Saru's reaction to them.

Episode 9: Into the Forest I Go

Tyler and Burham basically sabotague the Kling ship, L'Rell seeks political asylum on the Discovery and the Klingon ship is destroyed. The Discovery makes another jump and ends up in a mirror universe.

It's not the first time a mirror univese has been used. The idea is not at all impossible as there are some that thing there is a multiverse and in some cases there are other forms of human life which may be technologically, spiritually and mentally different from us but could maybe be duplicates of ourselves physically.

Episode 10: Despite Yourself

Tyler is shown to be some kind of Klingon plant on the ship. The Terran Empire is revealed. Burhnam plays her mirror universe part on the Emperor's ship. Tyler commits murder on the Discovery and we have yet another person basically get away with something that normally would have landed them in prison for the rest of their lives.

Episode 11: The Wolf Inside

More in the mirror universe. Burnham gets in trouble for helping some people and Tyler gets put into jail as he's found out as the murderer of Culber and he's also a Klingon spy. Since they are technically still in a war with the Klingons in our reality it surprises me a little that Tyler/Voq was not killed for being a spy, especially during wartime.

Episode 12: Vaulting Ambition

Lorca gets put into a torture chamber. Stamets is in the myclelial network and finds out what the major problem is with it. Burnham finds out something interesting about Lorca.

Episode 13: What's Past is Prologue

Lorca tries to lead a coup against Georgiou. Lorca gets killed. We find out that this Georgiou seems to like Burham as she's willing to die to give her time to escape but ends up being grabbed by Burnham so both of them can escape. The throne ship is destroyed.

Episode 14: The War Without, the War Within

Earth is losing the Klingon war. Goergiou gives Starfleet an idea on how to defeat the Klingons. Stamets also manages to get more sporres for the drive.

Episode 15: Will You Take My Hand?

Tyler offers suggestions on how to check out the Klingon's homeworld underground. Burham finds out the Federation has a way to kill every single being on the Klingon homeworld. They put control of the bomb planned into L'Rell's hand so she can stop the war and lead the Klingons. The USS Enterprise makes an appearance.
