Star Trek Discovery: The Way to the Stars

It was amazing

Now I know full well that there are a lot of people that don't like Star Trek Discovery but I, for one, really like the series. Tilly happens to be one of my favorite characters and so I had to get this book.

I was not disappointed at all. The author did a very good job with Tilly's character and gave her a solid background that helps a lot to explain just why she behaves, well, somewhat oddly from time to time. The story involves a very, very, very controlling mother, a divorce, her father off doing xenoarchaeology and Tilly sent to a school she doesn't really want to attend to prepare her for a career she doesn't really want.

At the time Tilly is only sixteen years old. She has problems of her own and doesn't have the best social skills ever. That plus her innate fear of failure and embarrassment lead her to make a rather not-totally-thought-out decision. It causes trouble for her and trouble for many others yet it also proves to be a learning experience for her and we get to see how mature the young girl really is. Mature and extremely brilliant.

She gets to go places she never went before (and never planned on visiting), has more trouble with her mother and even ends up heavily involved in a mission that could be positive for the Federation or maybe even lead to an interplanetary incident.

Tilly in all her flaws and all her brilliance on display. Excellent book.
