The Mysterious Dr. Q
The book is basically an unbelievable, illogical one based on hypnosis. Mr. Bowman, the Sixers newspaper teacher, asks Elizabeth what she knows about hypnosis and he tells her a hypnotist is coming to the school for an assembly.
Right off this doesn't seem realistic. Having someone come to the school to talk about hypnosis and doing a demonstration would definitely not be approved in a regular school. It could, if worse came to worse, end up with charges of mistreating a minor.
There's a a quote from Bruce Patman when he says Girls are just plain inferior.' I imagine if he ever took an IQ test against a rock that he'd come in a distant third.
Amy figures in since she's terrified of flying but she's going to have to do an interview in a helicopter so supposedly hypnosis might help her.
The hypnotist tries to explain that hypnosis is not a toy. It's a powerful tool but a dangerous one and no one should just play around with it.
So Jessica does, this go rather wrong (as expected) and it's up to someone else to save the day (as expected.)
I just don't see something like this happening in a school and there's a major difference between the two times Jessica tried hypnotizing others and all of a sudden she's developed an incredible ability to succeed? Again, totally unrealistic.
One of the least likable books in the series.
