Football Girl

There's at least one other book in this series. The story starts out with a young boy (Mark) who is beaten by his drunk father who also beats his wife frequently. His father threatens to kill him when he sees him dressed as a girl and throws him out of the house when he's 15. Fortunately, as in some other stories, there are people that like him and he's given a flat to use as his own.

Mark also loves to play soccer (English football) and is very talented at it. Finally his father beats his mother so hard she ends up in the hospital and she finally realizes a divorce is her only realistic option.

Marks plans is to do a full transition to being a girl. He gets taken on by a professional soccer team and plays well for them. (He doesn't let them know right off he's tg, though.) Mark makes a mistake in ordering some pills online that are supposed to stop male puberty but they have more in them than that. Mark takes the name Susan as she now wears girl clothes full time except at the soccer training and matches.

The rest of the story revolves around his friendship with other girls, extensive shopping, her improved soccer play, a murder, a rushed transition to full girl, a hateful reporter, dealing with her fame and an attempt to murder her.

Susan/Mark goes through a lot. The story shows just how utterly intolerant some parents can be. It also shows the nature of hate groups and how far they are willing to go to spread their hatred.
