From the Ashes
Ed is very poor at sports and is girlish in behavior. He spends a lot of time with Janny. He's also bullied at school. His mother realizes that Ed might be trnasgendered. His mother says if Ed is tg then it's the end of her marriage. His older brother is taken to the hospital.
The father blames his mother for what is going on and leaves. There's a tragedy at Ed's home. Ed begins undergoing the medical procedures to transform to a female form.
It's a pretty typical transgender story showing what kinds of things can go wrong in the family when someone either comes out or is found at. It also shows the major importance of having someone that you can depend on and who understands you even if it's not someone in your own family.
