The Boy in the Lilac Dress

Ken is a young boy, physically, but is tg, meaning he knows that he should have been a she. There's a pageant at the school which has five boys dressing up as girls in order to raise money for a charity. This is the perfect time for Ken to become Kristi and, basically, test the waters to see how Kristi will be received.

Kristi's mother is totally understanding and 100% supportive and so are all Kristi's friends. Kristi's mother takes her shopping to buy lots of clothes, accessories, makeup and the like. Kristi ends up having a guy she kisses but considers him a friend. She also has a girlfriend, Jenny, who is also totally supportive and they have oral sex.

The only problem Kristi runs into is at school where several boys bully her and one even shoves her.

This is an interesting book as it examines how someone who is tg really knows that they are supposed to be the opposite gender they were born. It also examines how much is needed to just get that person set up to appear in public as the gender they feel they are. Also, the importance of supportive parents and friends is shown.

The only problem I have with this book is that paints a very easy picture for someone who wants to transition Given the way things are in this country at the moment I feel that such as person as Ken/Kristi would probably have a lot more problems that she actually runs into. Those would probably involve a lot of hatred and more trouble at the school. The school in the story is totally supportive of her and anyone that is similar but I doubt very much that many schools are like that.

Still, even f it is an idealistic story it's nice to read and something to hope will become the norm for tg people and not the exception.
