Suddenly This Summer

Michael, almost 16, is going to go through hell. His father is dead; his mother married to a stepfather who is about as vicious, prejudice and overall nasty as is possible. His older sister has left home. Michael is a loner and bullied. He's also trans. He also self-harms.

His grades have gone down and his only pleasure seems to be in trying some of his sister's clothing on. His mother catches him at it, though, and is totally unsupportive. His father gets worse and Michael has to leave home and live with a girl friend that knows what he is going through. She and her friends are as supportive as possible for him.

He finds a doctor that will help him transition and he begins that journey. His situation with his parents changes, in one way for the good, at least with one of his parents, but in the other way in a horrible manner. She has to survive all of that and, at the same time, get ready to attend school as a girl.
