Don't Die, Dragonfly

This book is part of The Seer series.

Sabine has visions about things that will happen to people. She also hears a voice in her head, Opal, giving her advice at times. Things went terribly wrong for her at her last school where she was basically accused of being a witch and she moved in with her grandmother and went to a new school.

Another main character is Manny, a guy who works on the school newspaper. Danielle is a friend of Sabine's who has an interest in a football jock named Evan. Dominic is a mysterious, sort of anti-social young man that is working at Sabine's grandmother's farm.

There's are various themes in this book, the main one being Sabine trying to adjust to having her abilities and still trying to avoid alienating everyone around her. There's a typical teenage romance thing with Sabine and a jock named Josh. There's something about a problem that her grandmother has, and there's a theme about how lack of self-respect can lead to a suicide attempt.

There's also a story line about how far a student will go, including cheating on a test and attacking others, just to stay in athletics.

It's a very good first book in the series.
