Ghost Huntress: The Awakening

This is the first in a series of books about Kedall, who is 16 and who is realizing that strange things are happening. Things start by her hearing noises and get more difficult from there for her and it becomes apparent that she can hear and see dead people. Having just moved to the town she doesn't like this happening because she just wants to be a normal teenager and fit in.

Events don't go that way for her, though, as she actually ends up setting up a group of female ghost hunters who take on a very difficult task of a house haunted by the spirit of a murderer. It doesn't help things that her mother is a religious fanatic and is totally against Kendall having anything to do with ghosts and spirits.

Nor is she helped by a boyfriend she likes that ends up turning on her when her abilities are revealed. So it's an emotional roller-coaster for her as she tries to deal with school, her friends, her former friends, and her parents along with one murderous ghost.

The book has a really good story plus it's written by someone who knows about proper techniques of ghost hunting and incorporates them into the book.
