Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side

This is a vampire romance-type novel, along with another in the girl-is-force-to-become-something-she-doesn't-want-to-become type which, personally, I don't care a whole lot for because the girl seems to give in too easily.

In this case the girl is Jessica who is 17 and in her senior year in high school. She's an orphan who was adopted by American parents. She is originally from Romania, and her original name is Antanasia. A new student shows up in school, Lucius Vladescu, who is also from that area, and who is the dream hunk of all the girls.

The become-something-else theme shows up when it is revealed that Jessica was betrothed to Lucius when she was basically a baby, which is bad enough, but it turns out Lucius is vampire, which makes it worse, and happens to be sitting on top of a power-keg of two vampire clans that are ready to go to war against each other if Lucius and Jessica don't get married.

Jessica doesn't believe in vampires and she doesn't want to get married. The entire rest of the book revolves around Jessica having to expand her horizons in ways she didn't really want to, dealing with jealousy and, if that isn't enough, she has to deal with the real possibility that she is an actual vampire, and is developing the physical symptoms of that.

It's a good book and presents Jessica as a very intelligent girl who is very strong and willing to do whatever is necessary when necessary.
