Meet Josefina

Josefina is a young girl living in the area of New Mexico at the time when that entire area still belonged to Mexico and not to the U.S. She, her sisters, her father and others live on a large ranch. Her mother had died not long ago and they all still miss her very much.

The story centers around the caravan that is coming from Mexico City and will be stopping at the ranch. Everyone is busy making preparations and, when it arrives, they end up with a major surprise; Josefina's mother's sister has come to live in the area. There's a major party and lots of dancing.

Josefina also ends up having to face her fear of a mean goat that the family has, especially when it eats a bouquet of flowers that her mother had planted and she was planning to give to Tia Dolores, her mother's sister.

As always, there's a historical section which explains about the Camino Real and talks a little about life was like back then.

A good first book in the series.
