Meet Kirsten

This is the story of Kirsten, a young girl who comes to America from Sweden in 1854. There's a little time devoted to the ship journey but the main part is about Kirsten and her family going from New York out to Minnesota via train, steamboat and on foot.

It's not necessarily an entirely happy story, though, as a young girl that's a friend of hers becomes ill and dies of cholera during the trip.

It's a fairly good introduction to the series.
