Danger at the Zoo

This is a Kit Mystery book. It carries over various themes from the other books in the Kit series. Kit is still interested in becoming a newspaper reporter. The Depression is still going on. Will, the hobo, is back. The hobo jungle is visited. Kit's family is still running a boarding house.

In this novel Kit has a chance to become an actual reporter, even getting paid for any stories of hers the paper uses. The editor wants children-oriented stories, of course, and Kit agrees to do those, but she also wants to report on "real" news.

She gets her chance when there are various strange events going on at the Cincinnati Zoo, where Will has gotten a job, and Kit goes there as a reporter and tries to find out what is going on. First it's a question of if anything actually is going on, and then it becomes why are things happening and who is behind it all? The suspects vary and it turns out to be an interesting story as to what exactly is actually happening. All is not as it seems, of course, and there are more surprises for Kit than just the events in the Zoo, for there has been a series of mysterious disappearances of food and clothes at her house.

The series has done a good job with this novel and it's worth reading.
