Emily Windsnap and the Monster from the Deep

Thus is the second book in a series about Emily, who is a human when on land, but turns into a mermaid when in the water.

Their family has taken up residence on Allpoints Island, a place within the Bermuda Triangle where most of the people are mermaids and mermen, but there are a few humans.

Emily and her friend Shona, after a tour of the island, investigate a place that looks interesting. They follow a series of channels until they come to one place where they find a monster, the kraken, and it wakes up.

There is a danger that the kraken could destroy the island and attack ships.

At the same time, a second story develops, about a girl that Emily did not get along with at school. She and her parents sail a boat which ends up being wrecked by the kraken. They are able to survive on a small island.

Emily, meanwhile, is caught and arrested for violating one of Neptune's rules. She's also told that she and her friend must stop the kraken before others get hurt.

This is a really good story. You have the theme of the girl that has not been accepted in her human school, and it seems she won't be accepted in the world of the mer-people. You have the theme of the kraken, and what it does. There is also the theme of Neptune, and how he rules “his” world. It's a very well done story and very interesting.
