These are a series of books about the various girls, all providing a lot more detail on the times in which the girls live. Although each book in the regular series has it's own historical section, these oversize books provide a lot more information on the times that the girls lived in, and what their lives would have been like.
They not only provide information but they have a wonderful selection of photographs and drawings from the time periods, all of which helps to make the events in the various stories even more realistic. Some of the things covered are not always happy, of course, but history is filled with bad things happening, and it's important to know the why of some of them so that they do not occur again.
For anyone interested in history in general or the American Girl's stories in particular, all these books are well worth reading.
